Author and National Speaker, Margaret Spence will present “I’ve Fallen & I Won’t Get Up – 10 Strategies to Effectively Manage Workers Comp Injuries” at the 2012 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) www.shrm.org National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, June 25th at 4:00 pm.

In the current economic climate the one workplace demographic that is often over looked – injured employees. Even the most effective safety programs cannot prevent employees from having injuries. When the employee says “Ouch I’m Injured” Human Resource Professionals must have a strategic plan that goes beyond filling out the Notice of Injury Form. Margaret says, “Knowing how to skillfully navigate the workers compensation system is crucial to limiting your company’s exposure to litigation and getting injured employees to return to their pre-injury job.”

Spence’s session offers a rare opportunity for HR Professional and Managers to gain the insight they need to effectively manage injured employees. She will provide attendees with tips and tools to develop or update their workers compensation policies and return to work procedures, with a keen focus on injury management best practices that balance business demands against legal compliance. She adds, “It is imperative that HR Professionals understand the link between workers compensation injuries and employment litigation.” There is a direct connection between workers comp injuries and the ADA, most HR professionals fail to connect the dots until the simple injury becomes the next EEOC case.

Spence is a highly rated speaker who has presented nationally to groups in business, education, government and non-profit organization. Her speaking invitations include keynotes at 2012 Ohio Safety Congress & Expo, 2011 Manasota Diversity Conference, 2009, 2010, 2011 – Florida Workers Comp Conference, 2010 HR Florida Conference, CIDRAP Working with H1N1 Conference, CPCU Society Annual Conference and many more. Margaret will also be a presenter at the 2012 HR Florida Conference in Orlando on August.

Her compelling message – employers must be willing to see the employees’ ability after they are injured on the job and make every effort to keep the employee working. Margaret takes a normally boring subject – workers compensation, and turns it into an inspirational message that galvanizes employers to take control of their injury management program. Margaret firmly believes that the cost of injuries can be controlled if employers view workers compensation as a business unit within their organizational structure. Workers Comp is not boring in fact it’s filled with great stories and teachable moments.
